MICHAEL's IRELAND

Back to Page 3

Killiney Bay, south of Dublin, home of many celebrities. Michael viewed a number of homes around the bay before finding CastleHyde in Cork.

Sorrento Terrace, looking south over Killiney Bay. The 'terrace' block is composed of several homes and dates from the early 20th century. Michael looked at the one on the east (far) end, which sold for a record sum in 1999, shortly before he found CastleHyde.

This house, named 'Shandon', in south Dublin, was the former home of Ronan Hardiman. As he had his studio in the house, it was here he and Michael worked on Lord of the Dance in spring 1996, Michael famously tapping black streaks and dents into Ronan's newly restored wood floor!

The Ceide (say 'Kaydje') Fields in north Co. Mayo. The discovery of a 5,000 year old archaeological site here resulted in the development of a Visitors' Centre. The Mayo 5000 concert, at which Michael danced and from which Riverdance was born, celebrated its opening in 1993. By strange coincidence, the name 'Ceide' translates as 'Flat-top' or 'Flathead' mountain....!
